Using 'DJs from Mars' mixes in your sets...

Hey all,

Relatively new DJ here and had a question. I love that mashups that 'DJs from Mars' produce. The only problem is they are on the short-side with barely any intro or outro beats.

I'd love to use them in my live sets but trying to figure out a way to make them work. I looked into editing/extending them in Sound Forge but couldn't really make it happen.

Any suggestions?

My answer would be: not everything has to be beat matched. I miss having a perfect set of everything being perfectly beat matched but people don't care about it anymore.

Make it a fast match and you shouldn't have a problem, or use a song with a lot of "dead space" at the end so you can mix into it properly. There is a lot of recent material that is on the shorter side, so you can probably find a LOT of meat to put into your sets anyway.

They release radio edits and club edits for most of their mixes... if it's that short then you probably have the radio edit... so hunt down the extended versions ;)

Hah, their "extended" mixes can sometimes be under 5 minutes.

I had the same issue when I first discovered their mixes so I emailed them on their youtube account and asked if they had any extended mixes available. They ended up sending me a zip file with ALL of their extended mixes. And they are truly extended with a proper intro/outro. I suggest doing the same.

Has anyone else managed to get the zip of extended mixes?

If so how did you get in contact with them?

Thanks

Hey Kobe, I believe that zip Taj got from them wasn't meant to be for public access :P that's why you can't find it.

BUT what I'm pretty sure u can find on net are individual links for the extended mixes at 320kbps, that's how I got them, Remember google is a good friend and (at least for me) it's really helpful when I look for a song, that's why I don't need to use any of those p2p programs. :)

It seems extended mixes are only going out to people on their VIP list. No word on how to get on that list. But I'd try friending them on facebook. Their mixed sets are fantastic and their "earthling/alien" persona thing is a hoot.

Dude, I get them emailed to me. I was just passing along information for the ones interested. Sorry to impede your 'just google it' attitude, but some of them can't be found on google and some people might want to know why some were being answered while others being ignored.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the feedback.
Unfortunately the mixes I am after are not the ones floating around on the net.

Plus I would much rather have their permission to use their remixes....

Haha didn't know they had a "VIP" list. Oh well will try to hook up with them via facebook.

Cheers

If you join their group on Facebook, I believe it's called Mars Attacks, they will notify you of when the mixes are available. They had been releasing them quite frequently but have scaled back a big recently as they've gotten more legit remixing work.

They are really great guys. I convinced them to do a weekly mixshow on my internet station, B91 and I've since helped them get it on a couple of other stations like Pulse87 online. If you know of a legit internet station that would like to run their shows, there are restrictions, have them reach out to me.

Another interesting fact for the files is that they are managed in the US and UK by another remixer/producer. Jason Nevins.
