France Joli "Hallelujah"

I'm so elated that one of my all time favorite Canadian diva is back, France Joli. First was introduced to this amazing songtress when I was die hard Junior Vasquez fanatic and on a whim picked up France's dance single "Breakaway" that was remixed to perfection by Junior, Eddie Baez, Giuseppe D. etc.. This started the balling rolling and then later I found out France Joli was also behind the the popular disco classic from the 70's "Come To Me" and the mere age of 16 along other classics. Then in the 90's, she had a bangin' comeback with
"Touch" that was also remixed by Junior Vasquez and the brilliant Darrin 'Spike' Friedman. After those two fabulous singles from the late 90's "Breakaway" and "Touch" France disapeared. Now the vocal prowess diva is back this time taking on Leonard Cohen's classic ballad "Hallelujah" and really transforming into a delicious dance confection and making it her own- remixed and produced by Giuseppe D. The Radio Edit was commercially released a few weeks ago, so I'm waiting and dying with anticipation for the full the club mixes along with her forthcoming new album. Would really love for France Joli to enlist Giuseppe D. and his cohorts Tony Moran, Ralphi Rosario, Manny Lehman to add their magic to this already slammin' release "Hallelujah"!

Giuseppe D,

Just realized that Giuseppe D. peruses this forum, thus if your reading this can you please shed any light regarding extended clubs for this excellent production, once again KUDOS for an excellent job on this production!

Btw- Was going through my Whitney collection this week and thought your mix for Whitney's "I Look To You" was exquisitely done especially the cools breakdowns and overall execution which I thought was more emotive than those hectic Johnny Vicious warehouse/club mixes.

River Run Deep/Gonna Get Over You Now Mash

At recent appearances promoting her new dance single
"Hallelujah", France Joli has been belting out a mashup of of "Rollin' In The Deep" with her classic "Gonna Get Over You"- now I'm now dying to hear this mash and I hope she comes to some Pride events here in local Cali. She also
recently did a cruise even in which she wrote:

"Yes, in front of 5,000 gay men. It was my first cruise and it was very exciting. I started singing “Come to Me” and then I did “Hallelujah.” I heard the crowd starting to roar. It made me feel like I was 16 all over again. They welcomed me with open arms after 30 years.

Giuseppe D. where are you? We need some info regarding
an official extended mix for "Hallelujah" and a nice mix of
France's mash of "Rollin' In The Deep"/"Gonna Get Over You"
would even be cool- please!!!

Julian Marsh's Radio Mix (3:42) is now commercially available at CD Baby. It's strange that Julian Marsh's full Club Mix (7:55) is not included along with his Radio Mix, what's the deal with that? Come on, I really hope France Joli's camp
gives this a proper commercial / promo release with the
original Guiseppe D. and Julian Marsh mixes on one package
or at least on a promo Cd5 format of some kind...Ugh!!!

Really elated to see some more club remixes making the rounds. Also glad to see Joel has completed a mix since he always does a stellar job. Here is the official Julian Marsh Video Mix along with some nice feedback:

Love France Joli and I am glad to see her back, but the production sounds so dated. Julian Marsh has not evolved with the times. He makes everything sound like a disco classic :(

With the original song being in such a different rhythm pattern, it's somewhat weird to hear it in a 4/4 rhythm pattern. It can work, but me personally I would have timed the vocals and riffs differently. Especially the chorus vocals. She does have a great voice though and it's a fun rendition. Video is cute.

"Hallelujah" (Julian Marsh Ballad Mix)
An Unreleased mix which I hope materializes on France's full length album or as b-side on a future single, since enjoy
having 'candlelight' versions along with the stomping club mixes.

Favorite Mix

Joel,

I know you occasionally peruse the forum so I want to give
you major kudos for your fabulous remix on this release
package. After listening to all the remixes incessantly, hands down your stellar mix is definitely the standout. All the mixes were pretty good but your stomping mix with the cool
'church bells' really brought it and was aptly titled "going to church'! I hope you are part of any future France Joli singles, keep up the good work!

@PAJ, thanks so much for your kind words! I'm always hesitant to drag things out from my bag of standard tricks, but the bells seemed totally appropriate for this gem.

I too hope to work with France again, such a delightful person and wonderful artist. And her vocal just soars on this track - a perfect marriage of artist and song that so rarely comes along. It was an honor to tackle it!

Singer, song writer, and poet Leonard Cohen behind this indelible classic sadly passed away last week November 7th, RIP. Over the years this gem has been sung
by countless singers, so I was more than elated that Leonard Cohen's fellow Canadian compatriot and my favorite diva France Joli did such a stellar dance redux:

Also in tribute to Leonard Cohen's passing and Hillary Clinton presidential loss, SNL
started their show with this cold open:

apparently there were only 1,000 copies of this CD single pressed up, almost all of which were sold either at her live shows or in Provincetown during the summer of 2012 where the song was a huge hit

The Cd single I ordered was even autographed which was a cool surprise when I received it! Aside from those fab 6 remixes, I wish it would have included Julian
Marsh's unreleased (Candle Light Mix) or the Acapella for such a great track.
