The Whitney Houston Remix Thread...

Wanted to open this thread so we can discuss Whitney Houston's remixes new, old, unreleased ect...

I recently found this amazing eSQUIRE vs OFFbeat 2011 remix of "So Emitional". I'm really looking for more exceptional updates of her music like this one. Any suggestions??

although it's not necessarily dance, I love the pound boys RnB remix of "love that man"

I really wish the thunderpuss mix to "same script different cast" had gotten released

of course all the thunderpuss mixes were flawless... hex's were too.

the remixes that are on her greatest hits are good too.

Ditto! Instead of those Slang mixes and Jonathan Peters'
Dub for "Same Script, Different Cast", I really wished the commercial 12" pack should have included Thunderpuss' fab mix along with the Pumpin' Doll's Epic which was beyond fierce. And speaking of dance mixes, I always get chills everytime I hear Whitney's "One Moment In Time" and
thought this would have made one electrifying anthem.
There was an excellent club mix for "One Moment In Time"
by Natalie Grant that was done years ago as a tribute to Whitney and couldn't believe how good it translated into
a dance mix and how stellar it would be to have Whitney's original version given the club treatment.

I'm still a huge fan of the Freemasons Club Mix for Million Dollar Bill; I still find myself spinning it once a month-ish.:)

I also thoroughly enjoyed Hex Hector's take on Heartbreak Hotel.

It's always been about Shep's remix of "So Emotional" for me. Classic. I also much preferred the Jonathan Peter's remix of "Same Script..." to any of the other remixes of that track.

I definitely agree with you on that one! His first version of that remix I especially love for the break-down with the emphasis on her vocals! (Main and background) LOVE THAT PART!! (7:59 mark)

I love how the Thunderpuss mixes for "It's Not Right, But It's Ok" never gets old, it still puts me on a dancey mood. I also love the Dub mix with all its craziness and vocal loops, one of her best remixes ever! :D

There are so many good Whitney mixes out there... I agree wholheartly about You'll never stand alone and Heartbreak hotel and would like to add the ones I always find myself get back to - CJ's Queen of the night, C&C's I'm every woman and Dronz' I'm your baby tonight. All very classy and give respect to her voice.

Just music.

Frederik Van Hooft and Forever Kid are two up-and-coming producers from Stockholm, Sweden. Van Hooft is still in Sweden, where he over the past year has released a couple of songs including “La Deng,” “Rain Clouds,” and “Cembalo” (who most people still think is an Avicii song) while Forever Kid has been busy studying Business and Entrepreneurship at USC in L.A.

Sadly i've discovered this 2 weeks ago

Hey Mike...just thought I'd make mention and thank you for such a fantastic mix of "Try It On My Own". It was my mix of choice for my crowd back then...never failing to pack the floor. Eventually it became one of those few songs that I'd end the night with...pitched down a bit...it was a perfect cool-down vibe with Houston's loving message of defiance and self-strength. Sad that she couldn't heed her own advice.

Considering that IMO the greatest Remix, Mix, Track whatever of all time is "I Will Always Love You" (Hex Hector Remix), I guess that makes it obvious that it's also my favorite Whitney remix. The builds are breathtaking, and it takes the power of that vocal to a whole other level.

The Dronez Mix of "I'm Your Baby Tonight" is soooooooooooo good. As mentioned on another thread the Rauhofer Mixes of "Love That Man" are banging. Club 69 Mix of "INRBIO" is great too, but slightly overlooked for TP's crowning moment.

I love The Unreleased Mixes vinyl set as well. Seems to be going for a pretty penny on eBay right now.

I asked Jody Den Broeder if he could do somehow a club versions of the parts for "Greatest Love Of All" or "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" that he used on his Megamix back in 2009, and he replied:

So yay! at least something new from Jody! :)

Yes. I love the synths they used on that part and the not-so-obvious chords they chose.

Aside from Tony Moran's mix, there was also a mix done for this track around the same time by Julian Marsh: "You'll Never Stand Alone" (Julian Marsh Power Drive Club
Mix) 7:37. In a vintage interview done by DJ Ron for the
website dancemusic, Julian discussed the difficulty in remixing
this particular track and how one of Tony Moran's engineers
helped:
JULIAN MARSH "You'll Never Stand Alone" by Whitney Houston. The original was done at around 95 beats per minute. When I timestretched her vocals, she sounded like a chipmunk. One of Tony Moran's engineers showed me how to lay the original vocal on top to hide the sped-up vibrato. It took hours to do. At the same time, Hosh Gureli left Arista and the project got canceled!"....

I love reading inside tibits like this!

Does anyone know if the House Mix of Whitney's duet with Aretha Franklin called "It Isn't It Wasn't It Ain't Never Gonna Be" was released on CD or digital format? I checked Discogs and they only show a release on vinyl. I've been looking for this remix for several years and have never been able to find it.

Thanks,

There was this UK import CD5 with the Teddy Riley rmxs
:
Aretha Franklin & Whitney Houston "It Isn't, It Wasn't, It Ain't Never Gonna Be" CD5 U.K.
1.(Single Remix)
2.(Extended Remix)
3.(Hip Hop Remix)
4."Think"

For this track, I alway enjoyed Nic Mercy's mix:

Remember "It's Not Right, But It's Ok" (Thunderpuss Unreleased Anthem) 16:53 which was hybrid of both the
club and dub with some extra craziness and vocal loops,
heck even the (Tpuss Bonus Beats) for this track was cool.

And that version's legit too! Barry Harris made it, and it had the (original) slowed down drop. Always felt the Club 69 Mix was a little underrated though (I loved the disco elements Peter included in his mix).

I have to agree with you on that one; that mix is loaded with dancy drama ... it's a "no-fail" floor saver, I think. The Thunderpuss Mix of Tell Me Why by the Spice Girls is high on the drama factor, too. :)

I have to agree with you on that one; that mix is loaded with dancy drama ... it's a "no-fail" floor saver, I think. The Thunderpuss Mix of Tell Me Why by the Spice Girls is high on the drama factor, too. :)

Agreed 100%. Both of those mixes are floor-packers to this day.

I only have the TP Club mix from the single and I really enjoy most of the bigger club mixes of her songs. "It's Not right" isn't on my top 5 of her songs but this Thunderpuss mix lifts the song to the top of my list of remixes. Always a pleasure. Outstanding excellent work :-)

Edit, nope. Seems I have the TP dub mix (8:20 min) on the Heartbreak Hotel/It's Not Right CD5. A bit clubby but still an enjoyable masterpiece :-)

It definitly sounds like a sample from on of her older recordings (1998 and up)... I just can't put my finger on which of them.

Just music.

Here's an interesting one guys and gals and Freemason's fans and can confirm,

I have on good authority from the Freemasons that have actually done their own version of "So Emotional" but it's still not finished, if you were one of the punters at the Jeffrey Sanker White Party in 2011 at the Fireworks you would have heard a bit of it, if you want the full version, persuade them to finish it cause its CRAZY!!!!!.

Need Proof:

Let's see if they will ever finish it off!!!

One of the best things about remixes is that they allow a song to continually be reborn and live forever long after a song is past it's original popularity and after an artist has left us.

Despite the joy of the music, the fact that there has to be a memorial thread for her is very upsetting.

Yes, I know which is why it was labeled and posted with 'Vs' as opposed to just the duo's name. Mirror Ball also have their own fb page with a slew of mash ups. Though, in the past 7th Heaven official remixes have used "mirror ball" in their remix titles for their past productions like Sabrina Johnston's What Hope Have I (7th Heaven Mirrorball Mix), Angie Brown's "Knock On Wood" (7th Heaven Mirrorball Mix), Earth, Wind, & Fire etc.. which is probably a coincidence or
probably inspired these remixers behind these mash ups to
incorporate a 'mirror ball' label. The only true mix that comes to mind that 7th Heaven did for Whitney is their fierce mix for "I Look To You" albeit a Club Edit which is a shame that it was not released or included with the other remixes.

Haven't been on the site in a while and stumbled across this thread. It brought back a lot of memories working with Whitney, Hex, Junior, Peter, Johnny Vicious, TP, Jonathan and so many others. There was and is no one like Whitney. I'll go look in the CD book and see if there is any I can contribute that wasn't released.

"I Look To You"

In recent fb blurb DJ Wayne G. posted the following:

.."Not many people know I did 2 mixes of this track. My favorite female vocalist of all time and a joy to work on and a big thanks to Hosh Gureli for making it happen. I did one with 7th Heaven Remix & Production and then this for my late night sets. Expect to hear this at Oz New Orleans on New Years Eve. This world does not sound the same without Whitney Houston."

https://soundcloud.com/wayne-g/whitney-i-look-to-you-wayne-g-private...

Interesting to learn that Wayne G. collaborated with duo 7th Heaven for a trio mix aside from his own solo mix of this fab track.

There was a Love Will Save The Day remix, I believe by Eddie Baez (not 100% sure). I've never heard it in HQ form, I used it in a Whitey megamix I did years ago. I would actually love to update it in hq, along with couple other mixes that weren't in the best quality at the time.
https://soundcloud.com/rileyyork/riley-yorks-keep-movin-megamix

Also did anybody mention Junior's mix of Get It Back, another one I lost over the years. I remember reading somewhere it was unfinished.

"It's Not Right, But It's Okay" 2K15

Ned & Sultan vs. Whitney Houston "It's Not Right, But It's Okay"

"Canadian house duo Sultan and Shepard have been a mainstay in electronic culture for nearly a decade with hits like “Walls” on Tiesto’s Club Life: Volume II Miami and 2011′s “In The Air” alongside Morgan Page and BT. No strangers to smash remixes, they’ve reached back in the catalogs to 1999 for a deep house makeover of Whitney Houston’s classic break-up anthem “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay.” The track allows Whitney’s sassy vocals to play out over a percussive build pummeling to a contagious deep-meets-future house drop that delivers a refreshing take on a beloved original that’s hard to top..."

Thanks,

DJI

Most of the mixes were released on a double disc Aretha re-issue in 2014:
